Romantic miracles can happen! Take Harry and Elizabeth Lawrence, for example. Divorced and estranged for nearly two decades, they accidentally met again and rediscovered their lost love. In It Had To Be Us, Harry and Elizabeth share their feelings about the poignant events that brought them back together. Filled with humor, emotion, suspense, and a surprising Las Vegas encounter, this heartfelt romantic memoir proves genuine love can survive any of life’s problems.

An amusing new honeymoon revelation plus a section devoted to some of Elizabeth’s favorite romantic movies are also included in this 2010 expanded version of Harry and Elizabeth’s award-winning E-book.

It Had To Be Us won first place in the E-book category at the 2006 Hollywood Book Festival. It also earned a coveted Psyche Award nomination and a 5-Hearts review from The Romance Studio the following year.

It Had to Be Us eBook Elizabeth Lawrence

I appreciate the format Harry & Elizabeth chose for their romantic memoir. It speaks to my fascination with the communication (styles) and process between men and women, and just people in general. The ways in which we view and interpret situations and conversations differently, and what sadness can arise from our different perceptions. It's also personally very revealing to have both sides comment on the same situation or conversation. I applaud the authors' courage and honesty in sharing with us these very private moments and feelings. I could feel my heart cramping as their vignettes recalled my own past experiences and pains.

"IT HAD TO US" IS A WONDERFULLY TOUCHING HOMAGE TO LOVE. SWEET, HONEST AND FILLED WITH HOPE. A GREAT GIFT FOR VALENTINES DAY...JUST SAYING! SHARE IT WITH SOMEONE YOU LOVE!

NANCY LOMBARDO HOST OF "COMEDY CONCEPTS BLOG TALK RADIO"
IT HAD TO BE US is a beautiful and touching tale of how true love can span decades, generations, marriages to other people and the entirety of a lifetime. From chance meetings, rekindled love affairs, and a foray into the Debbie Reynolds museum in Las Vegas, Nevada, this is a story that, however brief, is an awesome saga of two lives brought back together that were never really apart. It will bring you to tears and bring about hopefully a belief that that old fashion love that once existed on the silver screen can again exist in real life.
I finally read this wonderful novelette. It was so rich with emotion I could almost feel what Harry felt when he was writing his letters -- and I found it very flavorful, very sincere, and, like Spring, very blooming. I also learned a lot about Elizabeth, and even though I am still young in years, I can tell she is a truly wonderful individual, caring, genuine, loving, and a brave heart for putting together and publishing such a personal account in such intricately rich personal detail for unknown eyes to see. Thanks to Harry and Elizabeth for writing this beautiful novelette.
A funny and original memoir, overflowing with detail from both sides of the love story. For this special, romantic odyssey, Harry and Elizabeth Lawrence take turns illuminating events, often shedding light on little moments which the other person might have missed. From their initial encounter to scenes both light and heavy, it's a narrative bathed in the glow of Technicolor. The potential for a feature length motion picture is strong here.

After this short love affair ends, we get some excellent appendices. Readers can indulge themselves in a tasty selection of movie treats, including well-written critiques of romantic fare, such as Music and Lyrics and Love Actually. This tome maintains a beautiful flow throughout, and it's exactly the kind of literature you want to read again instantly.

You'll laugh and wish that all true stories could be this enchanting.

Highly recommended!
I fell in love with falling in love when reading Harry and Elizabeth's story! The way the story is written is wonderful showing how each person had their own fears and worries over seeing the other again. Harry shows just how terrified a man can be over his love for one particular woman. Elizabeth puts her love on the line again after the hell they put each other through. Both people are wonderful examples of human frailty. Fantastically written in a "i remember it this way" style will have you laughing.
The story of Harry and Elizabeth is typical of so many marriages. It begins with a high school infatuation that turns to marriage, children, college and careers. Eventually, what brought the couple together in the beginning changes as life's demands take them on different paths. Eventually, after the children are grown, they divorce.

What is different about Harry and Elizabeth's story is that the original spark of love never dies, but tends to grow as both remarry and then lose their second marriages to leukemia. They both are alone again and become satisfied with their single lives and retirement.

But, a chance meeting arranged by their daughter 20 years later, ignites that ember that had been smoldering in both of their hearts when they realized that their second marriages weren't the same as that high school infatuation. Elizabeth asks Harry to join her in Las Vegas for an event she is covering as part of her retirement avocation, movie reviewer. In this case, what happens in Las Vegas, doesn't stay in Las Vegas, but is revealed by the couple. He reveals in present tense, and she reveals in past tense. But their recollections are strikingly similar in spite of their personal differences.

What results is a whirlwind renewed romance with energy and adventure reminding one of The Graduate.

I highly recommend this short read with this gentle respect for love and its sometimes “wisecracking” humor for those that wish they had a second chance at love, and anyone who is interested in a true romance story.

I just finished IT HAD TO BE US. While reading this romantic memoir, I found myself talking out loud to both Harry and Elizabeth, sort of coaching them along, saying things like, “NO, it’s OK – invite her.” What a fascinating and engaging read!
